Garden Fences
We'll install the ideal fence for your garden!
We've provided a short overview of some of the fencing options you'll have below but we also appreciate that when it comes to border fencing you may not have responsibility for all of the fences surrounding your property.
This can potentially cause some frustration, especially if one of your neighbours has really let their fence go to rack and ruin. If this is the case all is not lost, you can decide to install your own fence just inside the existing one. As klong as it is contain within your boundary we can erect your fence so you can complete the look you want
Wooden Fencing
Timber continues to be the most widely used material for fence panels but there are many different varieties and choosing the right one or ones can impact the frame for your garden.
When it comes to wooden fence panel quality the first aspect to check is that the panel has been pressure treated, sometimes referred to as being tanalised timber. Protective wood chemicals and preserves are applied to the wood under pressure which means that the protective chemicals go right through the wood and as a result provide significantly better protection to you fence panel than having no treatment or simply being dip treated. the difference between pressure and dip treatment will not be obvious to the eye but will be more obvious in the potential price of fence panels or for a full fence. Whenever we install wooden fencing we will only use pressure treated panels. Whilst many suppliers will state that you can get away without treating your panels for over five years it is good practice to try and apply additional protection every few years which could see your fence lasting up to 15 years.
Wood will inevitably weather and rot due to its natural composition and therefore many wooden fences will be installed into concrete posts with a concrete gravel board resting on the ground at the bottom of the post with the wooden fence panel sitting on top of it. The concrete gravel boards will protect your fence panels from damp of the ground and the and concrete posts will be much more tolerant and sturdy fixing - especially against high winds. Some people will want to stick to wooden posts and panels all round due to the preferred aesthetics of an all wooden fence. However, the use of composite posts and a composite panel acting as a gravel board can provide a good alternative option.
When it comes to wooden fencing there are many types such as:
- Feather edge panels
- Closed board panel
- Hit & miss Fencing
- Slatted Fencing
- Woven Fencing
- Picket Fencing
Each of these can often come with straight edging or an arched top and also include some trellis at the top too. Full trellised fence panels can often work will to provide internal fencing or sectioning within a landscape project as they can become a living fence with climbers and plants weaving into them whilst allowing some light to pass through too.
We can discuss and recommend a fence panel style that will complement your garden design

Composite Fencing Installers
Many more people are choosing composite fencing for their gardens. It's easy to see why as they require little to no maintenance, can come in a variety of colours and are naturally much more resistant to dirt and algae build up. They are almost always chosen for a contemporary garden design with grey being the most popular colour, often matching composite decking.
As mentioned earlier it can be a little frustrating having a mix of fence types if you are not initially budgeting to install a new fence which is the responsibility of the neighbour but it is always worth having a quick discussion with them to see if they may want to contribute to a new composite fence, rather than installing an additional fence inside theirs - as it will clearly also provide benefits to them.
There is a variety of composite fences and sometimes UPVC or plastic fencing are also interchanged freely when talking about alternatives to wooden fence panels. The subtle difference between composite and PVC is that a composite panel will have a very small percentage of fine wood fibre mixed in with the PVC whereas a full plastic fence will not. In reality there is little difference in the performance of each but composite is by for the more popular with more wood effect designs available.
Some composite panels can slot into existing concrete post either directly or with an adaptor whilst others will only fit into their matching posts which will mostly have a composite outer layer around a steel or aluminium core to provide similar, and sometimes even better, strength to a concrete post.
We can suggest a number of different composite fencing options and are competent in installing them all.
